Welcome to the St Andrews School website.
St Andrew's main school site remains closed. Our Nursery building has been open throughout lock-down for key worker's children and welcomed back some nursery children on the 1st June 2020. All other age groups who have been permitted to return to site are located at our partner school, Rushmoor, on Shakespeare Road, for the summer term.
We were pleased to welcome back to the school site pupils from our junior classes, Year 2, Year 3, Year 4 and Year 5 on Monday 22nd June 2020.
We welcomed back Year 10 and Year 12 pupils to the school site on the 15th June 2020. 25% of these senior cohorts are allowed on site at any one time, so a rota system is in operation. Our focus for those wishing to come into school is to concentrate on practical lessons to support the on-line learning they have been receiving via Microsoft Teams lessons throughout the lock-down period.
On the 1st June 2020 we welcomed back a small proportion of our pupils who chose to return from Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 6.
Families with children returning to the school site received detailed instructions and copies of the risk assessment, outlining the procedures in relation to the health, safety and well-being of all pupils and staff entering the school premises.
Rushmoor and St Andrew’s Schools Alliance are following the Government’s guidelines. Families can choose if they wish to send their child into school. Those not returning are continuing with our virtual lessons using Microsoft Teams or SeeSaw. We are pleased that our virtual teaching and learning has received excellent feedback from our families, with face-to-face conference call lessons, set assignments and even assemblies provided.
As the Government sets out further instructions, we will update our families accordingly. In the meantime, stay safe.
With our very best wishes
Investing in the future
In September 2013 St Andrew’s School and Rushmoor School formed an alliance. They now work under the guidance of one Governing Body under the leadership of one Principal.
Across the St Andrew’s and Rushmoor Alliance, in recent years we have received national recognition from The Independent Schools Association in the following categories:-
Winner – Award for outstanding provision for learning support.
Winner – Award for outstanding provision in sport.
Winner – Award for excellence and innovation in early years provision.
Winner – Award for financial innovation.
We have also been a finalist for the ‘Award for Excellence’.
We have purchased a 40 acre site and are now actively planning for our formal merger and move to a modern, purpose-built educational setting.
We are very pleased to be investing in the future. Our new site will provide classrooms offering stunning views across the Ouse Valley. The new facilities will help to ensure our pupils thrive in the STEM subjects and the countryside location will be the perfect setting for a Forest School and outside amphitheatre.
Our reputation for providing outstanding sports provision for all abilities means we will make good use of the additional space to provide enviable sporting opportunities. We will also continue to invest strongly in performing arts and the creative design arts to ensure these important subjects are accessible for all our pupils.
Planning the new site is an exciting opportunity to build on our strong ethos. With 230 years of providing excellent education and pastoral support across both schools, we know the importance of meeting each child’s individual needs. The formal merger and move to the new site will ensure we can continue to meet those needs long into the future.
Founded in 1896 St Andrew’s is a small Independent School with a co-educational Nursery and Junior School and a girls’ Senior School. St Andrew’s provides an education for the whole child, combining traditional values with the best of current practice.
St Andrew’s has flourished by providing a nurturing environment in which each child's talents are found and encouraged. Each pupil’s individuality is highly valued, fostered and developed. Pastoral care is outstanding.
Small classes are the key to success for each girl or boy in developing new skills and achieving her or his full potential. Pupils are expected to work hard, but we also know the value of fun and relaxation and pupils have many opportunities to take part in a wide range of extra activities.
St Andrew’s is a small school with high expectations and big ambitions for your child. We hope you find this website useful and of interest in finding the right educational setting for your son or daughter. It can be no substitute, however, for a personal visit to the school, giving an insight into school life and the unique ethos of St Andrew's. Please contact the Admissions Secretary to arrange a personal tour with the Principal.
We appreciate the importance you attach to selecting the best independent school for your son or daughter; childhood is something which can be experienced only once. With this in mind, and the belief that children learn best when they feel happy and secure, we aim to develop in our pupils a lifelong interest in learning - one which encompasses the full range of intellectual, cultural, artistic and sporting achievements of our society.
In line with Charity Commission requirements we offer bursaries and scholarships at both Rushmoor and St Andrews. New applications are welcome at both schools for the next academic year. Bursaries are means-tested whilst scholarships are awarded for sports/arts/academic.
St Andrew’s was established in 1896 and has a strong reputation within Bedfordshire for providing excellent education and care for its pupils.

Supporting the school
The PTFA exists as the social and fund-raising arm of the school's activities. We organise different social events throughout the year, trying to involve as many children and parents as possible in events such as fetes, feature evenings, sporting events etc. In the spring term of 2016 the decision was made to formally merge the St Andrew's and Rushmoor PTFA's into one group who have responsibility for organising joint and separate events for the schools partnership.
We are a group of volunteers looking to be innovative and find new ways to support the children at both schools.
Please contact the school office staff if you are interested in joining the committee or would like to help in one of our events. Your support would be very welcome.
